This year I started learning 3d design and 3d printing. Its mostly for scale models (especially in 1/64 scale), but I will touch LEGO subject a bit too. Not too much because I think 3d printing custom LEGO parts is against LEGO spirit (if you can design any part you need, then its not LEGO anymore but more like snap-kit model kit).
But I decided that I can do a few things. Especially as I’m still learning all this. And I see that in some cases custom printed grilles can be useful (like alternatives to stickers). At my scale (6 stud wide) these grilles are small, so there are very limited choices I can do. And I prepared first batch of my free designs. You can see all the information and files here: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/lego-compatible-custom-car-grilles
In that link you can see my current grille library and once I have new update, I will update that link too. I will not host any 3d print STL files on this site, and won’t really mention them much after this, because this is more like interesting experiment and I don’t see any need to use such parts regularly. But for some people who like to use custom printed parts on LEGO this might be useful. So you can follow my profile on Cult3d – I will upload my new designs there. And I will expand into all other 3d print file sites soon.
I plan all my LEGO 3D STL file designs to be always free, but I will have some premium files for scale models (that will be on new site, once its ready).
None of my LEGO car designs will depend on such parts and I will not use them in renders or references.
After grilles I’m thinking designing some files for roll bars that would be useful for pickup trucks, Jeeps and other convertibles. And I want to do some wheel covers and wheel designs. Maybe push bumpers for police vehicles too (but they can be tricky to print I think).
